Photographs of my daughters, once a week, every week, this 2014. Week 24.
Remember this post? See thaaat? See how they’ve grown?! At this point we’ve spent approximately 650+ days with these two (that’s 21 months +20 days), which means, by rough estimate we’ve had:
- 1,300 (x2) = 2,300 baths
- 1,950 (x2) = 3,900 feedings
- 650+ mornings
- 650+ afternoon naps
- and 650+ nights of intense bed time routine
Do you know how hard it is to get two toddlers to sleep, and to make them sleep at the same time?
One of the daily challenges of raising multiples is getting them to follow the same routines, considering each twin has her own pacing and personality. As far as routines are concerned for Dawn & Rain, bed times are probably the craziest and the most intense.
I can’t really say that we’re getting better at making them follow a bedtime routine because really, every night is just.. different. For sure there’s some wrestling involved, and sometimes a bedtime story. There’s definitely a lot of singing and hugging and cuddling in the dark. Also, milk and tantrums.
Dawn likes singing, so we consume her energy by singing action songs and lullabies. Rain likes doing something with her hands, so we give her little things to play with, like a stuffed toy or her blankie.
Both of them like talking in the dark (not that we understand what they’re saying), so either we amuse ourselves by listening to their conversations, or we join in and ask them questions they most likely don’t understand too. Questions like, “Really? What else?“, or “What else did you do today?” or “Do you know Mommy/Daddy loves you?” Which of course they respond to as if they really know what they’re talking about.
And both of them LOVE backrubs. So when we sense that they’re starting to get sleepy, we give them backrubs. And oh boy their Daddy gives the best backrubs ever, I mean, hello, I should know. :D
Rain had a little accident sometime around week 24. She must have scratched her face in her sleep, we’re not really sure. We don’t know how it happened exactly because she already had it when we woke up. It took a week or two before the wound was healed, and another week before the scar completely disappeared.
I have to admit, for a second there I wanted to Photoshop her wound and remove any traces that it happened at all. But who am I deceiving? Besides, I want a remembrance of that wound. For us, it’s a reminder to be thankful for the “battle scars” and to always be grateful for having a God who watches over us even while we sleep.
As parents we can only take care and watch over our children so much. How awesome is it that we have a Father in heaven who watches over us 24/7? ♥
Project 52 Update: It’s supposed to be Week 28 this week, which means I have just 3 more sets to go to catch up with the rest of the mommas around the world who are also doing this 52 Week Project thing. I intend to schedule the posts to come out within the next 3 days. No more backlogs!
