The full disclaimer is, Android never really worked for me. I find it complicated, and too techy for someone who just uses her phone to make calls, send messages, post on Social Media, and take pictures. On the other hand, my husband is crazy about Android. He has always preferred Android phones for reasons I never really understood before, but slowly starting to appreciate now.
Enter this line of Asus Zenfone products and my initial (mis)conceptions about Android starts to shift completely. Two weeks ago we were given the Asus Zenfone 2 Laser 5.0 to try out and my husband was giddy like a school boy. Soon I understood why.
He’s been using the Asus Zenfone 5 (an older model) for over a year now, which, mind you, is already a great phone as it is and has served my husband well. The new Zenfone 2 models, however, have more powerful features and have fixed some of our issues with the Zenfone 5. In fact, my husband has been reading about this new Zenfone since they came out earlier this year, so you can just imagine his joy when the package was delivered.
And can I just say how important a phone’s camera is? Specifically for me, because of the nature of my job and as a Mom of twin girls who are growing up way too fast.
The thing is, there’s just no way we can carry around a bulky camera everywhere like we used to because, well, toddlerhood. This year, 90% of the twins’ photographs are taken with our camera phones, 9% taken by our photographer friends, and only 1% taken with our DSLR. I’m not sure how I arrived at those statistics really, but you get the picture.
A camera phone is essential to us for obvious reasons. And for me, it’s actually the first thing I check out when reading phone specs and reviews. Amazingly enough, the laser Pixelmaster camera is one of the best features of the Zenfone Laser.
Laser 13MP Pixelmaster Camera
It’s been an ongoing (inside) joke between me and my husband how much better I am at mobile photography than he is. My husband being highly creative himself, we can be really competitive about artsy things; but let’s not talk about the other things he does better than I do, ok? LOL.
Let’s just say, I have an unfair advantage because my phone takes better pictures than his phone. The photos he takes with his old Zenfone 5 are evidently more grainy, blurry, with too dark of a contrast even in natural light setting than the ones I take with my Iphone 5s.
This is the reason why I was pretty impressed with the enhanced Zenfone 2 Laser camera.
Asus implemented a laser focus technology where the camera’s “eye” emits a tiny infrared laser that (almost) accurately focuses on the subjects and correctly captures colors and details. When you click a subject on your screen, the laser automatically adjusts its focus pretty quickly and lets you take your shot as the moment happens. A game-changing feature, this is the reason why the model is called “Zenfone 2 Laser”.
It works pretty well in dim light too. The camera resolution comes with a good front-facing camera upgrade, from Zenfone 5’s 2MP to Zenfone 2’s 5MP. This enhanced camera features come handy when you have energetic toddlers who are always moving and climbing things and likes watching themselves on camera. True enough, this Zenfone 2 Laser lets you see what others can’t see.

Aside from the camera, other favorite features include the following:
Battery life
The phone comes with power saving modes which make battery life stretch up to one full day, even with regular and heavy usage. This is a huge thing for us. No need to worry about the phone dying, or having to carry around a bulky charger or power bank everywhere.
Android 5 OS: Lollipop
The Zenfone 2 comes equipped with the latest Android OS, Lollipop, plus a wide range of apps enhanced with more powerful features, better customization, and anti-virus options. As I said, I’m not very familiar with Android, but my husband really knows how to make the most of this thing, which makes me a very happy wife. Lol.
And it comes in gold
I mean, come on, ladies, need I say more? It also comes in red, white and silver, but this gold is just too pretty! My husband can talk about all the powerful features of this phone all he wants, but me? I can talk about how pretty it is all day. :)
Bang for your buck
Asus Zenfone models have always been listed among the best Android phones that offer the most bang for your buck. I mean, all of these features for the basic price of P7,295? Mind. Blown. Seriously, how is that even possible?
We totally love our new Asus Zenfone 2 Laser. If you’re looking for a new Android phone to replace your old phone with, I highly recommend this one!
