Once upon a time I took a whack at tablescape styling. Some of you will remember my short stint setting up candy and dessert buffets back in 2013. (Allow me to refresh your memory, ehem.)
I was really fascinated with event styling at the time, except I knew I could only manage styling a table and not an entire venue, lol! So my husband and I started a dessert buffet business and it was sooo much fun. I loved that people actually wanted to pay me to style tables haha. And while we had to let the business go after a year (because events were taking over all of our weekends, for one), my fascination with tablescapes went on, tucked away in the corners of my Pinterest boards.
Fast forward to 2016 and my friend Sheila told me about School of Styling‘s launch and invited me to go. The idea that a “School of Styling” now exists in the Philippines is such a great news, and it was even more exciting for me that the first set of workshops was all about tablescapes and table setting. I knew I had to be there!
The event started with a short photography workshop, followed by the table styling workshop. You see, there’s a big difference between self-studying tablescapes via Pinterest and learning techniques and principles first hand from a professional. Indy of She Dreams in Ink was very generous in sharing her knowledge and expertise from years of crafting and styling events.
After teaching us tablescape principles, she guided us through a hands-on workshop where, divided into three groups, participants worked on styling our own tables. It was a great way to get to know the other creative women in the class while applying what we learned in the process.
Here are the three groups in our batch, proudly posing by their own creations.
And this is Sheila and me, doing what we do best (faking candid shots haha) and having fun. :D
As if all the pretty is not enough, the class ended in a sweet note, with a table full of treats from workshop sponsors. This dessert person right here is very, very happy. :) Everyone also took home a bag full of goodies from sponsors and friends, a Certificate of Attendance, and lots of inspiration. Thank you!
It was a great day to learn something new and to witness the beginning of School of Styling’s journey. Kudos to Em and Indy for daring to pursue their passions and to translate their vision into something that inspires and empowers women and dreamers as well. :)
