Currently 02: Crepes, Tea, and Stories of Faith

La Creperie Moderne

Crepes, tea, dreams and stories of faith—Those are exactly what we feasted on when I met up with Karen, Bea, and Kat one Monday afternoon at La Creperie Moderne in Makati. It was one week after the first gathering of Pursuit Manila, and because Bea and Kat couldn’t make it to the launch, we thought we’d have our own little after-party!

Aside from our love for crepes and tea and great conversations, we share the same love and passion for God, and the same desire to create so that we can reflect back to our Creator His work in us. Karen and I only met Bea and Kat that afternoon, and yet somehow, it felt like we’ve known each other for a while. I guess being around kindred spirits really does that to you, like you speak the same language or something.  Continue reading “Currently 02: Crepes, Tea, and Stories of Faith”

The Story of Dawn & Rain’s Names

Hosea 6:3

We’re on Day 7 of Pursuit Community’s Seek Devotional, and yesterday the reading was from a verse that’s very close to my heart, a promise that my husband and I remember every single day because they run around our home in the form of two energetic toddlers named Dawn & Rain.

Hosea 6:3—

“Oh, that we might know the LORD! Let us press on to know him.
He will respond to us as surely as the arrival of the dawn
or the coming of rain in early spring.”

The thing is, we already knew we would name them “Dawn” & “Rain” before we found this verse!

We knew RAIN’s name right from the beginning.

The morning we confirmed that I was pregnant, God gave me this verse, Leviticus 26:3-14, and the passage began with..

“If you follow my decrees and are careful to obey my commands,
I will send you RAIN in its season,
and the ground will yield its crops and the trees their fruit.”

That passage is packed with so many promises, and as a married couple who’s adjusting to a new life, traversing new paths, and are about to be new parents, we claimed each promise in Leviticus 26 one by one. At that time we didn’t know if we were having a boy or a girl, we just knew that whatever the gender, there’s got to be “Rain” in her name.

And then we found out that we’re having twins, and few months later we learned we’re having two girls; but Dawn’s name was not revealed to us until later. The thing is, deciding on the second baby’s name was a bit more challenging because we wanted to be more specific. Since Rain already starts with an “R” following my name, we were praying for a name that starts with a “D” to follow my husband’s name.

One morning, at 7 months pregnant, while my husband was having his devotion, he excitedly shouted to me from across the living room, “I found her name!!”

God affirmed to him Psalm 37:6.

“He will make your righteous reward shine like the DAWN,
your vindication like the noonday sun.”

& that’s when we knew her name would be DAWN.

Dawn and RainI remember how it felt like, finally knowing what their names were going to be. We loved calling them by name while they were still in my womb, we even knew that Rain was the twin on top of her sister, and Dawn was the one who always kicked me on the side. Not only do we love the sound of their names, we love the promises that their names represent.

As my due date came closer, we announced their names to our family and close friends. It was Paul, my husband’s cousin, who messaged us one morning and shared to us Hosea 6:3. “Did you know that both Dawn and Rain’s names are in Hosea 6:3?” he asked. And there it was, indeed, our ultimate affirmation that we got our daughters’ names right!

But more than their names literally being in this verse, my husband and I acknowledge that our daughters are God’s real-life representation of this very promise to us.. that He will respond to us as we press on to know Him. That as we seek Him, we will find him. That He will come forth as certain as the arrival of the dawn and the coming of rain.

We’ve tested and proven this promise in our lives many times! Raising twins and becoming parents came with responsibilities that stretched us, broke us, tested our faith, and brought us to our knees desperate for God to respond. And every single time we call upon Him for comfort and help, He hears our cries and answers our prayers. Sometimes He changes our situation; often He changes us.

I hope that whatever you’re going through today you will find rest in the assurance that God is true to His promises. So when He says that He will respond to us, He most definitely will. You can trust Him.

Come join us!

Join us as we go through Seek, a 21-Day Prayer and Fasting Devotional put together by the Pursuit Community! We’re at Day 7, but you can begin anytime! You can find DAY ONE here.

Pursuit Manila: The First Gathering

The First Pursuit Manila Gathering, class picture yay!

So THIS HAPPENED, and I know it’s about time I blogged about this, right? After all, for the past 2 weeks many of you have emailed me and expressed your curiosity about Pursuit and asked me details about the next gathering, and I feel horrible for not being able to answer all of you right away.

The truth is, I have a templated response that I can just send to answer your questions. But you all are amazing, and you’ve opened up to me and shared to me beautiful stories and thoughts that deserve more than a few copy-pasted sentences. So if you happened to email me recently about the Pursuit Community, do know that I’m sooo blessed by your email and I’m replying to you with answers before this week ends.

That said, I want to share what happened to the first Pursuit Community gathering because I know it will answer some of your FAQs. And of course, I want to share my joy and my excitement in what the Lord has so far done, and what He’s yet to do in this little community of ours. :)

Lollies & Lipsticks: Blog Makeover

Brand Inspiration

desk top / stationery / cake / backdrop / logo / table napkin

I discovered lot of subscribe-worthy blogs when Martine and I had our Blog Makeover Giveaway last year. I just started offering blog design services at that time, and thought I’d like to launch my design business with a little giveaway that I hoped would inspire others to chase their dreams and creative pursuits.

Our criteria were a little bit specific. We wanted to find bloggers with great stories to tell, and are passionate about telling that story. It was a challenge to choose the winners because, really, everyone who joined deserved to win. But we had to do what we had to do and Camille of Lollies & Lipsticks was one the winners we picked. Needless to say, I couldn’t have been more happy about our choice. :)

Hear Ye, Pursuit Community is Here in Manila!

Pursuit Community Manila

I’ve been holding off on blogging about this news for weeks now, but here goes. You see, when I said I had affirmations that I chose the right One Word for 2015 (pursue), this is one of those major affirmations I was talking about.

First, let me tell you about the Pursuit Community

Pursuit Community, or Pursuit 31 as it was formerly called, was first established in 2011 as a community of female Christian photographers, spearheaded by Karen Stott, who is an amazing photographer herself, and writer and visionary (not to mention, wife and mom). The name was based on the Proverbs 31 woman, hence Pursuit 31.

Karen’s story and how Pursuit 31 came to be may be a story for another post, but you can watch her video here, if you want. Let’s just say, it’s a story of a woman who is just like us, struggling to strike a balance between career and family and passion, but instead of allowing herself to get stuck and frustrated and defeated, she dared to get out there to reach out to others who might be feeling the same way. And true enough, God blessed her courage and her faith.

After some time, other creative entrepreneurs, writers, designers, calligraphers, and passion-business owners expressed interest and although majority of the members are still photographers, the Pursuit Community has branched out to welcome all types of Christian women who have creative passions and pursuits.

Through local communities and the internet, Pursuit Community has cultivated relationships and support groups among women, and has become a source of encouragement for us to press on and run the race with passion and perseverance.

Marge Aberasturi: Brand Redesign, and some Marsala lovin’

When (The) Marge Aberasturi told me she wanted me to redesign her brand and her business sites, I was at first shocked, and then in denial, and then scared—pretty much went through all the stages of acceptance. LOL. Let’s just say, for months I was simply a quiet member/lurker of the Manila Work at Home Moms (WAHM) Community, where Miss Marge is much loved, and revered, and looked up to as THE Ultimate WAHM guru. And then we got to know each other in this Online Marketing workshop last year, and really, I was in a state of disbelief that she’d even.. talk to me, mere mortal.

Haha, ok, I’ll cut it out. Miss Marge is the most down to earth and approachable person in the world, and it was just so easy to work with her. It almost felt like our brainwaves were connecting in a level not a lot of people would understand. In fact, because of that weird connection, we skipped a couple of steps in the design process. And because we were speaking the same WordPress language (she’s a WordPress admin guru), we were working on the site almost simultaneously—me on the design front, and she on the site’s content, structure, and plugin configurations.  Continue reading “Marge Aberasturi: Brand Redesign, and some Marsala lovin’”
