There’s this pre-school in our neighborhood with a mural that the twins really love. So in the afternoons when my husband and I are both home early, we would walk the twins to the school and hang out by the wall. We would teach them colors, and simple words like “boy”, “girl”, “baby” or “shoes”. Sometimes they would willingly pose by the wall and we would take photos, in fact we have several shots like this.

Afternoons like this are precious. I know I’ll remember these moments forever, and I sometimes wish Dawn & Rain would have a recollection of how it was like, living here, growing up here, and having some of the best days of our lives these past 2 years.

They’ll be turning 2 years old this Friday. Two happy, challenging, and beautiful years with these two adorable little humans. As I browse through these photographs we’ve collected over the past 2 years, I am once again over the moon about how blessed we are, David and I, for having been entrusted with such beautiful gifts. The Lord is good. And we, are eternally grateful.

I can’t say it enough, these two continue to amaze us and melt our hearts with the little things they say and do. Last week I blogged about how fascinated Dawn can be with books, and how Rain loves kissing and hugging her dolls. You know how, when you have toddlers, you make sure to stash a few toys in your diaper bag when you go out? For us, our stash always includes a stuffed toy (or puzzles!) for Rain and some books for Dawn.

Just a few more weeks to go before their 2nd birthday! And just 12 more weeks left this year!

One time Jodi said, doing this 52 Week Project feels like counting down in reverse. It’s Week 40 this week, and dare I say, 2014 has turned out to be my most favorite year in the history of ever. And the year is not even over yet.

38/52: Twenty-three Months

Photographs of our twin daughters, once a week, every week, this 2014.

Last September 24, this^ happened, and the countdown to their 2nd birthday begins.

How did we get to this point again?

It’s like I woke up one morning and suddenly, it’s been 23 months! 23 months of warm baths, ridiculous amount of diapers and milk bottles, messy house, closets bursting with too many tiny clothes, 4-hour sleeps, co-sleeping in a queen-size bed, and waking up with chubby arms and legs on your face. Twenty. Three. Months.

23 months

And then last night, after a looong work week, this^ happened. We finally managed to squeeze in a trip to Cuts for Tots to get their bangs trimmed. We had dinner at Jollibee, strolled around the mall, and did some grocery shopping. How’s that for a Friday night?

Notice in the first set of photos how unruly their bangs were? I’m too scared to cut them myself, especially since it’s their birthday soon. I don’t want them to have bangs malfunction, not on their birthday!

#LIFEWITHTWINS

Just like most twins, Dawn and Rain are like the opposite ends of a pole. Dawn loves singing (like crazy! she sings everything), tinkering on my iPhone, and flipping through books. Rain loves playing with puzzles and stuffed toys, putting on dresses and accessories, and digging in my makeup kit. Dawn is a little shy around people (at first), while Rain says hello to practically everyone she meets (even strangers!). Dawn can sit still (and read flip through books) for long periods of time, while Rain always looks for something to explore. In bed, Dawn likes squeezing herself between me and her Daddy, while Rain likes being left to herself. In the morning, Dawn wakes up earlier, while Rain often oversleeps.

I could go on and on listing down their differences—things that make each of them unique and special and wonderfully made. And I love that in spite of their very different personalities, they’re still alike in so many ways.

Happy 23 months little darlings. We love watching you both grow! Even more so, we love growing along with you. Thank you for giving us countless of reasons to thank God for every single day.

Someone’s not in the mood to have her photographs taken last Sunday! Guess who? :)

And someone’s a little speechless tonight, too. (Guess who?)

The past week was just one of those ordinary weeks, but not really, because come to think of it, nothing’s been “ordinary” around here since these two became a part of our lives, which I guess makes the past week extraordinary in a way.

I suppose that’s why I’ve been staring at this post for the past 30 minutes, smiling to myself, unable to caption these photographs, thankful beyond words for everything I can’t quite put to words, and grateful to God for the extraordinariness of each ordinary day. You know what I’m saying?

Hope the past week left you feeling speechless too. Have a great week ahead. :)

Kate Quinn on Dawn & Rain

Few weeks ago, Dawn & Rain had the privilege of modeling some items from Kate Quinn organics through A.Ka Shop, the exclusive distributor of Kate Quinn products here in the Philippines.

What I love about Kate Quinn products: they’re very soft, comfortable and stylish. Made with 100% organic cotton, the girls loved playing around in their lounge dresses; and although they couldn’t care less about looking so chic, this proud mama here totally loved it! These lounge dresses are some of Kate Quinn’s best sellers, it seems. I’m not surprised. I love the style and the color, and I love how the dresses fit even though they’re one size bigger.

And as always, I just couldn’t stop taking photographs! I took as many as I could, making the most out of the natural light and cozy interiors of our favorite neighborhood cafe, La Creperie.

We bought them these dresses from Periwinkle for their first birthday party, and in a classic budget-conscious mommy fashion, I bought dresses that were one size bigger (18months) so that they can wear them for a long time. True enough, they’re turning 2 years old soon, and they can still wear these dresses!

Which is swell, because they didn’t exactly have a lot of nice pictures from their first birthday party. At least none of them smiling or enjoying their party like we imagined they would.

And then we realized that maybe first birthday parties are really more for the parents than for the kids. We’re celebrating their birthday alright, but mostly we’re celebrating ourselves for surviving the first year of parenthood, and for God’s infinite grace and guidance and provision to us as we went through this first year of stretching, and learning, and growing.

It’s been almost one year since that first birthday. How can time fly so fast?

Last week I was reminded that it’s about time we start planning Dawn & Rain’s 2nd birthday party. We’ve been putting so much thought on how we want to celebrate this year, especially now that Dawn & Rain can already interact, and have fun, and appreciate attention and love around them. Nothing grand. It’s going to be a small and sweet celebration, but just thinking about the smiles on their faces is already making my heart burst with joy.
