Being a blogger practically launched my career.
Ten years ago, I graduated with a Communications degree from University of the Philippines and hoped to find a job as a writer. Without much credentials to boast of, I listed my blog’s URL on my resume to showcase my (embarrassing) writing skills. Which, apparently, caught the attention of my first employer. Somehow he knew that online marketing will have a dramatic shift within the next ten years and he needed people who had basic blogging and HTML skills and maybe even a passionate curiosity for the craft. Score! I got the job and that’s how I got thrown into the world of SEO, Online Marketing and much later on, Content Marketing early in my career.
In the past 10 years, I’ve hopped from full-time office work to home-based setup (and back) because of opportunities I couldn’t resist. I just loooove working, you know? I enjoyed working in the corporate world, and experienced so much fulfillment in my career during those prime years. And I also enjoyed the freedom that came with working remotely. Having a remote job allowed me to go places and to take my work with me.
And now that I’m a mom, a home-based job allows me to be with these two adorable babies I couldn’t possibly leave.
Still, I can’t deny the fact that working at home has its cons, including losing a significant amount of income, which is, let’s face it, important when you’re raising a family.
Fast forward to now
I’m so blessed to have the best of both worlds.
I’m currently the Inbound Marketing Manager of a very promising startup, working 2 days a week in the office and the rest of the week at home. Three years since I became part of the Spiralytics family, all I can say is, I’m so blessed to have found these people. Read more about my work with Spiralytics HERE.
After office hours, I take design projects, not only because it earns us a little extra but mostly because I’ve been passionate about designing for as long as I can remember. I used to design for family and friends, until I started receiving inquiries from people who have seen my work somewhere. What you see now in this site is a result of years of self-studying Photoshop and WordPress out of pure love for the craft, and I love that I get to earn a little from something that doesn’t feel like work. Win-win.
Of course, I’m a full-time Wife and Mom, and no offense to my other “jobs”, but this one is undeniably my most favorite job title of all.
