Chasing Dreams 2015

Surprised (about the new look)? I feel a bit surprised, myself. ;) I have found that the best time for me to work on personal projects is on a whim; coming to terms with the fact that if I waited until my commissioned projects were done, or when my to-do list was cleared out, I would never have the time to work on my own projects. So, on a whim, it is.

Over the Holy Week break I started building my brand board and re-skinning the site, but the desire to re-brand has been building up since the start of the year. I’ve been growing a lot as a designer, and as you may have noticed, have become more comfortable owning up to the title. What you’re seeing now on the pages of this site is a reflection of that growth and a refining of my design aesthetics. From feminine and frilly to classic minimalist, you’ll notice that the evolution of my design style and preferences is quite evident in the way this site has evolved.

I thought it was worth mentioning that as far as my personal branding is concern, my gold phase is over. (I still love making other people’s brand sparkle with gold though, it’s a beautiful accent color!) You’ll remember how prominent gold was in my past two redesigns, but lately I find myself preferring basic and neutral colors. I guess this is also starting to show in the clothes I like picking out for myself. Navy blue, black, grey, white, beige, brown (the recycled color kind of brown). I also like blush, mint, and desaturated shades of green.

Sometime five years ago I waxed poetic about my love for the color blue (go ahead, read it!) and thought that all these years, blue has remained a constant favorite. I mean, I wouldn’t choose it to be our wedding motif if it didn’t hold some sentimental value, yeah?

I get a bit obsessive about typography. Ok, a lot! I like it clean and modern and minimalist. I like white spaces and minimal flourishes, too. I like patterns and design elements that are geometric and flat. I apply (minimal) textures and patterns only when it helps bring out the personality and the story of the brand. I like a design that brings the attention to the content of the site—both text and photographs—and not on the embellishments that surround it. I like a design that highlights you and your message.

When you avail of my design services, I hope you come to me for these things. :)  Continue reading “Chasing Dreams 2015”

God is Good

God is good!

This morning I woke up with this thought—God is good! There’s no denying it. The Lord is good. He is good, through good days and bad days, rain or shine, in every season.

I’ve been feeling a bit weak (and lethargic!) and unmotivated this week, perhaps an aftermath of last week’s virus. There’s much to be done and it’s like I’ve succumbed to a state of paralysis and all I want to do is stare into nothingness and not move. There was a lot of worrying about what to do next, and dwelling in hows and whys, and wishing that the things in my list would get done on their own.

But even through these moments of weakness I couldn’t have proven more how good He is. He’s so good it feels ridiculous sometimes. And this crazy goodness is pulling me out from my laziness and breathing strength in me and making me want to do good, too.

Whatever you’re feeling today—I hope that you don’t only know that He is good, but you also see it, feel it, experience it, taste it. Every single day. Even in the worst of days. Even when you don’t understand sometimes and you don’t see what He’s doing. God is good. Don’t ever doubt that.  Continue reading “God is Good”

Wifely Steps: Blog & Brand Redesign

Inspiration Board - Blue, Beige and Marsala

When Toni contacted me to redesign her blog, I screamed like a fan girl. Wifely Steps has been around since 2003 and I’ve looked up to her ever since I found her blog. Admittedly I was a bit scared, not wanting to screw up the design of a decade-old blog. I took it because she was too kind, and kindness is my weakness. So we started this design journey together, and that’s just how amazing she is, calling this a design “journey” and not a design “process”.

She took time to answer my design questionnaire, and wow, I never thought I’d read a design questionnaire answered the way she did, it was almost.. poetic! Her vision for her blog is very specific and I felt honored that she would even consider me to translate that dream into a blog design.  Continue reading “Wifely Steps: Blog & Brand Redesign”

Carmela’s Journal: Blog & Logo Design

Carmela's Kitchen

Back in the day, I would change my blog’s design quarterly, or anytime I feel like it. My favorite colors of the month would reflect in my blog design, and if you knew me back then, my color preferences changed quite a lot. It wasn’t until I got serious about personal branding that I stopped changing my online identity too much. I still find myself restless with layout and typography sometimes, but mostly I’ve maintained my color preferences to a minimum.

But that doesn’t mean I don’t get to play with colors, still. These days I get my color therapy from the blogs I design. I suppose all those years playing with color hexes prepared me for this! :) Needless to say, I had so much fun working on Carmela’s lavender and mint color palette, which, I found out later on, is also her upcoming wedding motif. ♥

After Carmela and I exchanged messages and pegs for her food/recipe blog, I just swooned. This lady has got some sweet taste! And of course I mean that both style- and culinary- wise. A pastry chef, food writer and the owner of Casa San Luis, Carmela blogs about her kitchen adventures, her business, tidbits of her daily life and everything in between.  Continue reading “Carmela’s Journal: Blog & Logo Design”

When You Seek You Will Find

seek

Starting the day early, starting the day right, Bible first before planner.

It’s the 19th day of the Seek Devotional Prayer & Fasting for me and I’m a puddle of mess—beautiful mess. The way God reveals Himself and assures us of His presence is truly empowering.

“God is able to make ALL grace abound to you so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times you may abound in every good work.” (2 Cor 9:8)

“ALL” things, not some, not most. At “ALL” times, not some times, not most times. As if that promise is not enough, God’s personal Word to me this morning is this–“I am The Lord, the God of ALL, is anything too hard for me?” (Jer 32:27). I don’t know about you, but if your God is THAT God, how can you not be moved to do ALL things for Him too?

Lollies & Lipsticks: Blog Makeover

Brand Inspiration

I discovered lot of subscribe-worthy blogs when Martine and I had our Blog Makeover Giveaway last year. I just started offering blog design services at that time, and thought I’d like to launch my design business with a little giveaway that I hoped would inspire others to chase their dreams and creative pursuits.

Our criteria were a little bit specific. We wanted to find bloggers with great stories to tell, and are passionate about telling that story. It was a challenge to choose the winners because, really, everyone who joined deserved to win. But we had to do what we had to do and Camille of Lollies & Lipsticks was one the winners we picked. Needless to say, I couldn’t have been more happy about our choice. :)
