Tuesdays. It’s an unusual day of the week to go out with girlfriends but for some reason, Normi & I keep seeing each other on Tuesdays. Totally unintentional, in fact I just thought about it now. Reminds me of Mitch Albom, who learned life’s greatest lessons on Tuesdays (with Morrie, yes!), except that I’m not seeing an old terminally ill professor.
Instead, I’m seeing an old friend whom I happen to journey this mommy life with.
Normi announced that she’s pregnant with baby number 2 on Facebook the day before we saw each other, and our usual Mommy date became a celebration of sorts. We pampered ourselves with a pedicure at Dashing Diva, and had our afternoon coffee at Cafe Breton. Correction: coffee for me, crepes for the preggy. No caffeine for you, little one.
Normi and I have come a long way. We grew up in Sunday School together, shared an apartment in our heydays, got engaged on the same month of the same year (September 2010, woot!), got married in the same year (2011), and now.. traversing this motherhood together. Having been friends with someone that long, it’s beautiful to witness another person grow inside and out. Conversations become more matured, and dreams become more for others than for ourselves.
It’s rare finding such friendship, and I’m happy to have this one with Normi.
That said, you know what else was birthed from these Tuesday afternoon dates?
We launched a mommy blog and called it “This Mommy Life”
One Tuesday afternoon, after rambling for hours about our new “career” as Moms, we went home and launched a blog for new moms like us.
(Excerpt from TML) Women can’t deny it. We love to talk, and we have to talk! It is in talking that we come to terms with our struggles, and it gives us a huge amount of comfort when we talk them out with someone who’s in the same boat. And that’s exactly where Normi and I found ourselves.. in the same mommy boat.
And often it is also in talking that brilliant ideas are made. We realized that if two women can endlessly talk about this whole mommy experience with so much passion, curiosity, and love, there must be more of us out there who are continuously learning from this full-time and life-long Mommy career.
Ideas become goals, goals become dreams, dreams become a purpose. That’s how TML humbly began.
It’s been nine months since we launched TML, and to be honest we haven’t really updated the blog in a long time. So imagine my surprise when the Associate Editor of Celebrity Mom magazine messaged me to tell me that..
This Mommy Life is Celebrity Mom’s “Blog of the Month”
And our feature comes with a nice little picture of the Herreras, and Normi’s little boy (and my inaanak) Ziki, taken from Ziki’s first birthday! Woot!
What a beautiful gift. :) And a nice reminder for us to start updating the blog again, haha!
Grab a copy of Celebrity Mom, September issue! I haven’t really browse through it yet, I just quickly scanned the pages to find the Blog of the Month section. I’m excited to read it and browse through the pages today.
We haven’t updated TML since August, but feel free to check it out here!
Normi says
Aaw. :’) It’s always much better to have someone to chase those dreams, because when you do achieve them, it’s much more meaningful celebrating it with them. :) It’s about time TML get back in full swing. Before September ends, I promise to have one or more up again. Weee! :D Or maybe you can repost this on TML or a shorter version hahaha para lang may update eh no. :p
