Day 16: Candid moment with my girlfriends

16/30: Candid. You know how sometimes, you act as if you don’t know that someone’s taking a photo of you so that it would look candid? Well, this photo is not one of those times. This one is an authentic, candid moment taken at Fernbrooks’ holding room just before the ceremony started.

I’m not even sure what Mae and I were staring at, what Ivy was smiling about, and what Jeline was thinking of. If not for this photograph, I never would have remembered this happened, even. But I do love the idleness in this photo, and the oblivion, and how it makes me feel like watching my life through someone else’s eyes.

Day 15: Imelyn Sanchez’ Make-up Artistry

15/30: Reflections. It’s Day 15 of this challenge, it’s the end of the work week, and I’m posting this quick because who posts blogs on Friday nights anyway? :P

Hello, this photograph is brought to you by my dear sister-in-law, who took care of my whole entourage’s make-up (including hers!), and did it beautifully. Our wedding aside, life sure has become so much easier and more meaningful when God brought Ate Imy to the family. Growing up with two *macho* brothers, I’ve always wished for an older sister I can share make-up, clothes, shoes, thoughts, and stories with, and I’m just happy that God granted that little wish of mine.

On that note, do check out her biz, Imelyn Sanchez’s Make-up Artistry! She’s done a lot of weddings and fashion shows in the past two years, I just looove watching her work, and am sooo proud of her. For future brides out there, there’s a bridal expo happening at the Mega Trade Hall 1 right now, the annual Kasalan 2011. Ate Imy has a booth there so if you have nothing to do tonight and anytime this weekend, drop by and get a free trial make-up! Trust me, my Ate can do magic. (:

Day 14: Unexpected beauty

14/30: Flowers. I’m addicted to details. Having only two months to plan the wedding (and with David still in the other side of the world), I found (and lost) my sanity in a plethora of mood boards and color palettes and chiffon swatches. I designed the wedding invitations and the website myself, including the escort cards, dress guides, and gift tags. I went back and forth Tutuban to personally choose fabrics, and visited the couturier every week to check how the gowns were coming. I carefully deliberated with David over Skype the songs to include in the playlist, picked souvenirs from the mall, post-processed the prenup photos.. you get the picture.

On one hand, I enjoyed being a hands-on bride (after all, you only get to be a bride once!). On the other, I learned that at some point, a bride has to let go of the plans, trust her coordinator, suppliers and friends, and just enjoy the ride. Yes, even when some details don’t go the way she planned!

I wanted white carnations, purple hydrangeas, baby pink roses and lots of pastels and light colors for our wedding.  But when Fresh Versoza, General Manager and Wedding Stylist of Josiah’s Catering (who’s also a good friend of mine), didn’t listen to me and included fuchsia pink in the palette, I was, at first, horrified. Seeing the mock set-up during our food tasting, I told her I wasn’t sure about the fuchsia, but she insisted and promised me that it would look beautiful, and she was right.

Looking back now, I’m happy that I let her do her thing. The fuchsia did look pretty — a striking contrast to my blues and purples. And it sure did make for beautiful photographs; Now I wish I could take the credit for it! (Thanks, Fresh, you’re awesome!)

On another note, it’s the 13th (yesterday) and just as I thought the night was over, David and I came home from Bible Study and these flowers and a box of chocolates were waiting for me.

Beautiful things happen when you least expect them, indeed. (:

Day 12: Beautiful things happen during sunset

12/30: Sunset. Just a quick post on my lunch break.

Somewhere between lighting our unity candle and our first kiss, the sun started to set. Although I can’t remember noticing the sunset that day (’cause obviously my mind was nowhere but on the man who was holding my hand),  I’m glad there were photographs that preserved the moments somehow.

I don’t have much to say today so I end this with some borrowed words from an Indian poet, words I wish I thought of saying first:

Clouds come floating into my life, no longer to carry rain or usher storm,
but to add color to my sunset sky. ~R.Tagore

I wonder if Mr. Tagore , as he was writing those very words, found love too. (:

Day 11: Something new, something blue

11/30: Something blue. Instead of getting the ladies in my entourage corsages, I gave them these custom-made satin floral accessories in shades of blue. They came with matching pairs of earrings too. They’re so pretty I regret I didn’t order more.

The idea was to give them something they can keep wearing long after the wedding day is over. True enough, once in a while I’d see my girlfriends wear them even in ordinary occasions and it makes me really happy when they do. (:

It’s been almost two months since, but I love that our wedding left little traces of love here and there. It’s like being reminded in random moments that yes, it really happened.

Day 10: A child can ask questions a wise man cannot answer

10/30: Kids. I have always loved being around kids.  At one point in my life I found refuge in their innocence, their uncanny ability to give you hope when you need it, and their effortless answers to questions we, adults, fail to figure out on our own. Even now, I know that a hug or a smile from Isaac can easily take away any form of stress or sadness any given time of day.

We had a no-children policy in our wedding because we were limiting head count, but these three kids just had to be in it!

Photos: (Top left) Jonah, my god son who’s now so big! He and his parents flew in from Sydney just for the wedding and we were really honored that they did. (Top right) But of course. That’s our dear Isaac, playing with the teddy bear which carried our wedding rings. (Bottom) And that’s Andie, our pretty little princess and only flower girl, who’s also David’s inaanak.

I’m sure we’ve all heard about Steve Job’s death.  A while ago I read this on Danny Sullivan’s twitter account and I just had to retweet it:

Me to boys: Did you hear about Steve Jobs? “Yes.” What do you think about that? “It’s sad because he has four kids.” Kids always bring it home.

Yep. We can really learn a thing or two from kids.
